How do I connect a domain to my server using NameCheap?
To complete this, you will already need to own a custom domain from NameCheap.
We also recommend having a dedicated IP when using a custom domain name.
In this domain tutorial, we will be using the site NameCheap.
You will want to be sure that you are logged into the site, then you will want to locate where it says account. If you hover on that, you will see where it says domain list.
You will want to click on the domain list option. Once on the domain list page, you will see your domain(s).
From there, you will also see a manage button to the right of the domain name. You will want to click on the manage button.
When you get to that point, you will see that you have four different options.
You will just want to worry about the Advanced DNS option. It is located to the middle right of the page. Go ahead and find that option and click on it.
Once you click on the Advanced DNS option, you will see many different options. You will just want to worry about the red button titled add new record.
This is located near the left middle of the page, as seen in this image below.
You will want to click on the add new record button.
This is where the dedicated IP server addon comes in handy.
For this part, we will be using an A record. Which will allow you to either directly set your domain to your server or use something like play.yourdomain.net.
Directly setting your domain will allow users to connect with just yourdomain.net.
Once you select the A Record option, you will see an option for Host, Value, and TTL.
You will want to set the Host to the @ symbol if you want your players to directly connect to the server with just yourdomain.net
If you are wanting something like play.yourserver.net, then you can put play or whichever variant you would like in the Host option.
Now, for the Value, you will want to put your servers numerical IP address.
If you do not know your servers numerical IP address by memory, then you will want to head to the home page of your control panel. There you will see the numerical IP address.
The last option you have for this is the TTL. You can and should leave this set to automatic.
If you have inputted all of these options correctly, it should look similar to the image below.
Now that you have all of the options inputted. You will want to click that aqua color check next to the automatic TTL option. You are also able to click the save all changes button.
You will now be able to connect to your server with your custom domain name. Please note that if it does not work right away, it can take different times to update depending on your internet service provider (ISP). Though usually, it works almost instantly to a few minutes. If it does not, it is possible for it to take up to 24-hours to propagate.
